Reliance triggers steep fall in Indian Mobile Subscribers numbers for 1st time in History!

This is surely a shocker – Indian Mobile Subscribers have fallen that too by over 20 million. If the latest TRAI report for July 2012 is to be believed, India’s Total Mobile Subscriber base has fallen to 913.49 from previous 934 million in June 2012.
The report indicates that Reliance, Tata, Uninor, Videocon, MTNL and Loop all lost mobile subscribers in July 2012, with Reliance alone accounting for close to 20.5 million mobile subscribers.
It is obvious that Reliance cannot suddenly loose such high number of subscribers. It is probably a cumulative figure that was not reported by Reliance earlier and has accounted for in this month’s report.
Tata is another company which has been on the wrong side of numbers for over 6-7 months now. But their numbers have been evenly distributed through-out this year – I was accounting the Tata fall to the Mobile Number Portability where subscribers moved from Tata to other providers.
In April, their was a cumulative fall in the urban mobile subscriber numbers, but this time due to Reliance, the total number of subscribers has witnessed a decline.
